This quote is from the first book in the Mortal Instruments series. Clary is explaining to Simon how to see through the glamour that covers everything "magical" from mundane eyes. Seeing through the glamour is a simple trick, easy to master after you've done it a few times. Clary compares it to seeing people—what their thoughts, their words, their actions really mean. And, she's right. It's very hard to see what people are through what they show you. This applies just as much in real life as it does in the world of the Shadowhunters.
